Sharing a love and passion for all things photography.

Meet Krystal, our lead educator

I love to help others develop their photography skills and passion for the craft
— Krystal Seigerman

My first camera arrived on my seventh birthday. It was a light grey plastic, with a snazzy purple trim. It even came with a handy yellow carry case. I immediately directed a photo shoot using my Barbie dolls as my very cooperative models. I had always been attracted to the visual side of life, but on reflection, the experience of framing the world through this lens was probably where my love of photography really started to take shape. Either way, it’s a passion that has threaded itself throughout my life ever since.

I continued to explore photography throughout my teens which soon led to work experience at the National Gallery of Victoria’s photography department, where the master printer patiently taught me how to use a darkroom. I knew then that I was going to become a photographer.

And that’s just what I did. I graduated with a Bachelor of Media Arts (Photography) at Deakin University in 2003. Since then I have been working professionally with a focus on portraiture and documentary photography. I also regularly exhibit and contribute my work to a number of magazines and publications.

I love to help others develop their photography skills and passion for the craft too. For 8 years I have been teaching photography in a variety of tertiary and community institutions including RMIT University, La Trobe University, Melbourne Polytechnic, CAE and Arts Access Victoria. I’ve taken American college students into the outback to learn photography, mentored people with a disability and taught hundreds of people of all ages how to master their cameras.

Camerakind is the next step in my teaching journey. Based on my real-world experience, I have developed a range of tailored lessons and workshops to support students to grow through the art of photography, regardless of their skill level. I’ve designed each one to be accessible, creative, engaging... and fun!

Feel free to explore our lessons and workshops, and if you have any questions, I’d love to hear from you.

Krystal Seigerman.
